About us
From October to April, LIHS meet at Riverside Business and Enterprise College, Lyncote Road, Leicester, LE3 2EL generally on the third Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm. Designed to appeal to everyone, topics cover a variety of subjects related to local history and industrial archaeology. For further information on meetings see our programme page.
Between May and September, visits are arranged to places and areas of particular interest to members such as weekends away in Wales or the Lake District, whole day excursions and local evening visits. As well as the obvious subject interest, the social aspect of these meetings is important to us.
We can often offer help and advice to other groups and individuals on related topics, and thanks to the generosity of donors, we have a small collection of printed matter including books and leaflets which is available to members for information and research.
New members are always welcome to attend for a small fee. We publish a newsletter on two or three occasions per year, and a substantial Bulletin as and when work is completed. We also publish notes of our monthly lectures. We are affiliated to the Leicestershire Archaeology and Historical Society (LAHS), which has just celebrated its 150th anniversary, and several of our members also support this organisation.
