About us

As well as supporting other local East Midlands groups, we hold 4 or 5  evening or whole day trips during the summer months to local sites of interest and also arrange long week-ends for members, their families and friends during May, visiting sites of interest in other counties throughout England.  As well as the obvious subject interest, the social aspect of these meetings is important to us.

We can often offer help and advice to other groups and individuals on related topics, and thanks to the generosity of donors, we have a small collection of printed matter including books and leaflets which is available to members for information and research.

New members are always welcome to attend for a small fee.  We publish a newsletter on two or three occasions per year, and a substantial Bulletin as and when work is completed.  We also publish notes of our monthly lectures.  We are affiliated to the Leicestershire Archaeology and Historical Society (LAHS), which has just celebrated its 150th anniversary, and several of our members also support this organisation.

Our Aims and Objectives are:

  • To encourage the study and recording of the industrial past of Leicestershire;
  • To arrange talks, visits and field days concerned with industrial archaeology and history;
  • To assist members with fieldwork and research;
  • To help correlate research and prevent duplication of effort;
  • To ensure the preservation of information recorded, possibly by the publication of our own journal.
