Ashby Canal at
Oakthorpe and Donisthorpe
Brickyard
29th July 2007
Members and guests walked along parts of the Ashby Canal and visited a little-known brickyard in Donisthorpe.
Thanks to Alan Ingle, we were given an extensive tour of the brickyard site which posed a number of questions such as why was the chimney so far from the kiln and why were
a row of upended bricks packed over a holocaust floor?
......
The earlier brickyard site held more mysteries. Below is the holocaust floor mentioned above where a tightly packed
row of upended bricks were found.
