Programme of lectures 2011

Tuesdays at St Mary's Community Hall LE3 3FT

18th October
Sex and Drugs and Rock ‘n’ Roll: documenting marginal urban lives in the post-industrial midlands Neil Fynn, ULAS (University of Leicester School of Archaeology)

based on the recent investigation of industrial buildings in Leicester and Nottingham, the talk will be structured around surveys of various industrial buildings undertaken over the last decade and will be illustrated by pictures of many familiar sites. Neil stresses that he wants to avoid the usual focus on the archaeological approach to recording these structures, which tends to be rather selective often ignoring or avoiding (either deliberately or subconsciously) the evidence for the more recent use of some of the buildings.

ULAS undertakes archaeological projects all over the UK. Neil holds a senior position within this group and will choose a Leicester Building recently surveyed to demonstrate their work
