LIHS members working on the lead mining site of Esgair Hir in Cardiganshire in the 1980s.
We are a group of individuals who thrive on information regarding Industrial History inside the city and county of Leicester and far beyond that realm. We enjoy getting on our knees and in the dirt as much as an evening’s social gathering and presentations.
We have regular meetings during our winter season on the third Tuesday of the month at Braunstone West Community Centre in St. Mary’s Avenue, Braunstone. Details of how to get here. The summer season is spent out of doors with much emphasis but not solely on, the Glenfield Tunnel.
Designed to appeal to everyone, topics cover a variety of subjects related to local history and industrial archaeology. We are also building a digital collection of images and past Bulletin articles. Please check our Winter Programme page, here.
One of our aims is to assist members with fieldwork and research, so we often offer or lend help and advice to other groups and individuals on related topics, and thanks to the generosity of donors, we have a small collection of printed matter including books and leaflets which is available to members for information and research.
We publish a newsletter twice a year, and a substantial Bulletin as and when work is completed. See.
We are affiliated to the Association for Industrial Archaeology (AIA) and to the Leicestershire Archaeology and Historical Society (LAHS), which has just celebrated its 150th anniversary, and several of our members also support this organisation
