Loughborough’s finest: before they were famous!
Many of you will have heard of some of Loughborough’s companies, like Taylors, Messengers, Coltmans, Tuckers, Grudgings, Burders, Hathern Station Brick and Terra Cotta Manufacturers, Edwin Cook, John Jones, Ladybird Books, Herbert Morris, The Brush, Zenobia … the list is not exhaustive, but it is endless!! But, how come these companies are (or were) all in Loughborough?? Where did they come from, if they weren’t already here? When did they come, and why?
In this presentation, I’m hoping to look at the background of a couple of these well-known names and companies in depth, and follow their journey and fortunes. This is ongoing research, and of course, I had hoped to share my discoveries with you about all the companies mentioned, but I’ll be lucky if I can cover just a couple in a one-hour talk!!
